Freema Agyeman is a British actress who is best known for playing Martha Jones in Doctor Who alongside David Tennant.

After completing a degree in performing arts, Freema began her acting career with a number of roles in programmes such as Casualty and Silent Witness. However, in March 2007 she won the coveted 'assistant' role in Dr. Who replacing Billie Piper. Since the official departure of her character at the end of 2007, Freema has returned to make a number of appearances in subsequent episodes of the show and its spin-off series, Torchwood, starring John Barrowman.

Freema has made a very easy transition into straight drama and has appeared in the star-studded BBC production of ‘Little Dorrit', the 2008 adaptation of the famous Charles Dickens novel. She played Tattycoram and received several fantastic reviews.

LAW & ORDER: UK, the spin-off TV series of the popular US Law & Order franchise, has just returned to our screens after its hugely successful opening run on ITV1 last year. Freema stars as Alesha, the female lead, and continues to receive rave reviews and big ratings.
