Angela Scanlon has worked as a dancer, a stylist, and a journalist before moving accidentally-on-purpose into television. An exciting and unique new talent, she was named ‘One To Watch’ by VOGUE and has been cited in The Observer's ‘Why We’re Watching’ feature as the UK’s new onscreen fashion queen.
Following on from stints on Xpose (TV3) and Off the Rails (RTE), and a spell giving Tim Lovejoy advice on 'stuff she liked' on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch, she joined RTE's The Movie Show as a reporter and helped hopeless singletons find romance in The Love Clinic. Her first major documentary “Oi Ginger!" was broadcast last year to critical acclaim, and trended worldwide on Twitter.
Her new series, “Angela Scanlon-Full Frontal”, begins on RTE2 this month. Angela tackles subjects often considered sensitive and taboo it with her own flair, taking a relaxed, non-judgmental approach with tongue firmly in cheek. Never one to sit on the sidelines, she delves headfirst into each of the subjects becoming our voice of reason, our conscience and our connection into some of these extreme worlds - she undergoes an extreme makeover, goes to 'Hell & Back' and even gets her kit off. Kind of.
She has also just wrapped filming on travel programme, Getaways (a BBC/RTE co-production) which will air in January 2015.
Angela brings an insatiable curiosity about people to her TV work - as well as unstoppable energy, infectious humour and a great sense of fun. Although she has been hailed as a fashion icon, Angela is, in many respects, still a tomboy at heart - always ready to throw herself head first into the next challenge, ruffling feathers and surprising people with her filthy laugh. She understands and respects popular culture but she is not overawed, or intimidated by it, and she never shies away from asking the tough questions.
Angela is in demand for hosting live events and has a quick wit, ability to think on her feet and easy charm which make her an instant hit with audiences. 2014 saw Angela host the main stage at London Fashion Weekend for a third time, a job she took over from Caroline Flack after hosting the Vodafone Live Lounge for the British Fashion Council for 2 years.
Over the past couple of years she has interviewed a whole raft of weird but mostly wonderful folk including Kanye West, Christian Louboutin, Bob Geldof, Chris O’Dowd, Jessica Pare and more. Unfazed by big names she is as happy pouncing on strangers at red carpet events as she is have deep and meaningful chats over tea. Whatever the situation, Angela has a knack for making people instantly comfortable and coaxing out their deepest darkest secrets and uncontrollable giggles!
